ONE MUST DO - LIGHTNING @ RANGERS GAME 7

The NHL Eastern Conference Stanley Cup Finals has come down to a Game 7 match-up as the Tampa Bay Lightning face-off against the New York Rangers to see who will prevail and head to the Stanley Cup Finals. Madison Square Garden will host tonights Game 7 match-up where Rangers fans will likely scream their lungs out to get morale built for the home team. A seven goal Game 6 gave the Rangers another opportunity to extend their NHL season and show fans why they were the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference. Noted was Henrik Lundqvist's 36 saves on 39 shots, holding Tampa Bay to just 3 goals only one of which was executed on the power-play. Statistically, the teams were evenly matched across the board, but the Rangers determination to come out victorious was well-shown in an impressive onslaught. Center Derick Brassard earned his pay with 3 goals and 2 assists, his first true outburst of the series. Quietly, New York has regained the momentum and will look to prove themselves the better team once and for all in Game 7.

Tampa Bay was victorious in Game 5 taking the home ice advantage down to Florida for Game 6, confident that the opportunity to close the Rangers out would be fully executed. Their inexperience showed true as their youthful staff was out-roughed by the opponent Rangers who delivered 27 hits. A unsound engagement with the physicality of the Rangers had Tampa Bay sitting in the penalty box for 8 mins of the game. They're aren't the bruisers they'd like to be and the moment they're pulled from their finesse type schematic, they become vulnerable to the defeat. They need to dictate the tempo in Game 7 and have superstar Tyler Johnson bring out the Hat Trick for a Tampa Bay Berth in the Stanley Cup Finals. This one is for all the marbles.

A SPLASH LANDING

After five tedious games, last night the Golden State Warriors closed out the Western Conference Finals against the Houston Rockets winning by the score 90-104. Many will argue that the Rockets had no business in the Conference Finals while others may forward the idea that the Warriors are simply the best team the NBA currently offers. Splash brother Klay Thompson gave the Warriors a 20 point output in the Game 5 win while the league MVP gave 26 points to lead all scores. Forward Harrison Barnes also chipped in 24 points of his own very quietly. The Warriors score in so many ways that it's rather hard to keep tabs on the #1 offense of the NBA. On nights when Curry and Thompson slump, you may see role players like Draymond Green and Shaun Livingston catch fire. Other nights, bench players like Barbosa and Iguodala contribute to the offensive onslaught. When matching up against Golden State, there is the constant task of applying defensive pressure to each and every player that eventually exhausted the Rockets in the Western Conference Finals. Stephen Curry will make his first NBA Finals appearance in which is set to begin next Thursday June 4th. His stellar 2015 year has been all he could hope for.

Golden Sate will match-up against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals who ended their Eastern Conference Finals opponent with a four game sweep. Expect this series to be the ride of a lifetime. While many fans are enticed by the outing Stephen Curry has produced this NBA Season, others are riding the  wave of NBA legend LeBron James hoping he can bring the title home to Cleveland. What is most interesting about this series is the venues. The Quicken Loans Arena and Oracle Arena are both loud and offensive settings to play for the visiting teams. A quick scoring run can turn into a landslide, which will likely be the avoid of both these sound teams. Guards Kyrie Irving and Stephen Curry will line-up against one another. Expect the type of contention between these two to be similar to a the Direct TV and Xfinity competition. Already, NBA fans have combed social media sites with NBA Finals predictions. It's tough to say how things will turn out though, because bias may deter fans from seeing just how evenly matched these ball clubs are. June 4th sets the date for the NBA Finals. Despite the criticism and perception, LeBron James' 37 point 18 rebound and 13 assists outing in Game 3 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals must bring some sort of acclaim to the 11 year pro. Without guard Kyrie Irving and forward Kevin Love, LeBron still manages to make a way for his #3 seeded Cleveland Cavaliers to march their way unto a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals. LeBron surpassed NBA hall of fame legend Karl Malone and now sits in 6th place for all-time NBA playoffs points scored by a player. If the Cavs are able to keep this type of run up, it'll allow Kyrie Irving nearly two weeks of rest to prepare a thriller as always for the NBA fans who will likely see the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavs go head to head in the NBA Finals. Only time will tell though, the Cavs have a chance to close out the #1 seeded Atlanta Hawks in Game 4 tonight at the Quicken Loans Arena. We'll see how it all turns out.

The Atlanta Hawks loss Kyle Korver to an ankle injury in Game 2 and Al Horford loss his cool in Game 3. A controversial play captured the Atlanta Hawks center swinging elbows at Cavs guard Matthew Dellavedova who he assumed was attempting to take out his ankle. Horford received a flagrant 2 foul for the incident and was ejected from the game. The inhibited Hawks relied on extraordinary sources in Game 3 after Horford's departure. Kent Bazemore supplied 14 points to the scoring output that was led by Jeff Teague's 30 points. The Hawks shot 40 plus percent from the field and still came up three points shy as a Sheldon Mack three-point attempt ricocheted off the rim as time expired in overtime. The sun is setting on a stellar 2015 Atlanta Hawks season. Game 4 is tonight a must win for the #1 seed of the NBA Eastern Conference.

DUCKS IN A ROW

An exciting Game 5 of the NHL Western Conference Finals has the Anaheim Ducks one win away from the Stanley Cup Finals. The Ducks led the Black Hawks 4 to 2 with under two minutes to go in the 3rd period but Chicago scored twice in the final minutes of the contest. Two sheer luck goals by centerman Jonathan Toews flew to the back of Frederik Andersen's net forcing an overtime period and a Honda Center silence. Ducks fans sat silent wondering if they would surrender home ice advantage until 45 seconds into overtime when the Ducks got a 2-1 breakaway. Left wing Matt Belesky saved the day for the Anaheim Ducks on a rebound goal that sealed Game 5. A late game run almost stole the momentum for the Black Hawks but unfortunately, they'll be faced with a elimination game in Game 6 Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.

Clearly, the physicality of the Anaheim Ducks has overwhelmed the Black Hawks and though at times they have finessed themselves to the victory, the fatigue they endure in doing such is pure heaviness to their team. Frustration definitely hit the heart of Patrick Kane who slammed his stick into the backboards at the conclusion to the Black Hawks exhausting defeat. Hopefully the fans at the United Center can ignite Chicago so they won't fall behind the way they did last night. The Ducks will be looking to close things out and advance to their first Stanley Cup Finals since 2007.
