Lions Or Lying?

This weekend the Detroit Lions will answer the doubts of their pitiful rapport. The red hot Philidelphia Eagles will be looking to continue their Offensive dominice against a pretty suspect Lions secondary. Confidence is a dangerous thing though. The Lions looked impressive versus the Rodger-less Packers so they'll be looking to silence the citics. This Game surely has playoff Implications and I'm expecting a Lions win.

 

 

 

NFL POST-SEASON 14'

As I said back and August the Seattle Seahawks will make a Super Bowl appearance this NFL 14' post-season. Their non-glamor approach allows for a collaborative effort on and off the field. Like the Defending champion Baltimore Ravens, they have a stellar defense, efficient running game, outstanding coaching staff and a Quarterback that does everything but turn the ball over. It will be interesting to see how the Carolina Panthers feel about the praising of this NFC juggernaut. Expect the unexpected in the AFC like always. No team has clear dominance. Once the Kansas City Chiefs learn to hand the ball off a tad bit more often they'll beat the Denver Broncos, but the headstrong Andy Reid administration loves the splendor of the pass game. For Christ sakes you  have Jamal Charles in the backfield. Can we please get him 26 carries next time.

D. ROSE OUT AGAIN?

What is it that inevitably allows for injury after injury to D. Rose? Basketball analyst can easily identify the injury prone Chicago Bulls point guard as having a "wild" game. Horrid percentages from the field combined with an un-Point Guard like approach spells disaster for the Bulls organization and moreover, the physical health of Mr. Rose. The physicality of the NBA does not allow for a man under 6'5 to drive fiercely into the heart of the defense for highlight dunks and theatrical layups. Playing any sport takes for focus and a conservative approach. Each player must be Conservative (Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul) enough to know the physical limits in which they can be most effective and have the focus to allude the hazards involved within the game. Whether sports fans can recognize or not, these steam headed slashing Point Guards (Russell Westbrook, Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo) will forever be vulnerable to substantial injury until they realize that a lay-up, splendid floater, slam dunk, mid-range jumper etc all equal the same 2 points.

Bulls guard Derrick Rose sustained an injury to his right knee against the Portland Trail Blazers on November 22nd.

Subsequent examinations and an MRI confirmed a medial meniscus tear to his right knee, which will require surgery. Rose is out indefinitely, and will not accompany the team on the rest of its current road trip.

Is Josh Freeman the Answer?

Recently signed by the Minnesota Vikings,  Quarterback Josh Freeman will be making his debut against the New York "Winless" Giants tonight on Monday Night Football (ESPN). Christian Ponder (Left) has been a barbeque bust this season and the administration at the Metrodome is starting to ponder whether investment Ponder should continue. Never the less, Freeman will have a chance to give the Vikings only their 2nd win of the season. It should be exciting.

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

Tonight the NFC North Chicago Bears take on the New york "winless" Giants. This has definitely been a disgraceful year for Eli, salsa expert Victor Cruz and the entire New York Giants collaborative. The Bears though have brought in Marc Trestman from Canada and are showing a promise for the future of the Chicago Bears offense with Forte, Cutler and Marshall. Tonight at soldier field I'm expecting the Bears to kick it into another gear. I am predicting them to win this game convincingly as they look to make a pivotal statement in the competitive NFC North. Kickoff at 8:25pm est. Televised exclusively on NFL Network.

NFL GAME OF THE WEEK

This weeks NFL Game Of The Week has the New- deal Indianapolis Colts taking on the recovering San Francisco 49ers. I will go ahead and say it now the Indianapolis Colts are a force to be reckoned with. This is sure to be a physical game, one in which I predict the Colts to win. Without critical examine we are oblivious to the fact that the NFL has become a league of physicality and precision. Momentum will be a key factor as always and Candlestick isn't actually the quietest pond. Kickoff will be around 4:25pm.

NFL PRE-SEASON (Review)*

So the NFL Preseason began last weekend with the hall of fame game. This week several eye-popping games took place. Ravens Super Bowl MVP Quarterback Joe Flacco made an impressive performance in his debut versus Tampa Bay completeing 7 of 8 pass attempts and throwing just one interception. The Patriots took on the Philidelphia Eagles. The Pats offense seems all but rattled by the absence of Hernandez & Welker. They were able to score 31 points in  their win Friday night.

This season will yet again be a thriller. New faces on new rosters and the return of offensive mastermind Sean Payton. Sports analyst nationwide predict this to be a comeback season for the New Orleans Saints. This will be no easy task. The Atlanta Falcons are stacked with offensive power and will have an improved pass rush with the signing of 2-time Super Bowl champion  Osi Umenyiora .

I am very interested to see how this season unfolds. As Of right now I still predict a Seattle Seahawks apperance in Super XLVIII. Soon we'll see.

NFL Controversy : Riley Cooper

A controversial story has been circulating sports news worldwide. NFL Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper was caught on video using the derogatory word "Nigga."

This story has brought much spotlight and distraction to the already struggling Eagles organization who finished last season 4th in the NFC East. Cooper has since apologized for the slur but worldwide criticism has yet to subside.

McDonald's Workers Striking - Detroit, Mi

Workers have been striking since around 10:00am in front of one of Detroit's busiest McDonalds located just south of Forest Ave. on Woodward. The rally is one of many state-wide strikes, the most memorable occurring earlier this spring in Flint, Mi and also in Detroit on W.Grand Blvd. Unsatisfied employees claim they are underpaid and are seeking a heaping pay raise from $7.4/hr to $15/hr.

Their chant follows :

"What do we want?"

"Now!"

The city of Detroit is currently in a financial crisis. With the installment of the government appointed "Emergency Manager" city council will supposedly be reconciled and the economy may began to improve. As of now the city and its administration sit under the extreme microscope of its citizens who ridicule them for mis-managing the cities finances. For now the Detroit economy seems all but crumbling, and McDonald's workers want their raise. 

Detroit Bankruptcy

A Michigan Circuit Court Judge ruled Friday that Detroit’s bankruptcy filing is unconstitutional and ordered the case be withdrawn from federal bankruptcy court.

But Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said in a statement soon after the decision that he intended an immediate appeal to the Michigan Court of Appeals and would seek to block this latest order from taking effect while the appeal is heard.

The order came in response to motions by lawyers for retirees and pension funds for city workers, who argue the state constitution prohibits cutting pension and retirement benefits, as has been proposed in the bankruptcy case.

Saks Fifth Ave SOLD*

The parent of Lord & Taylor has agreed to buy luxury retailer Saks for about $2.4 billion.

The news comes a little over a month after reports surfaced that the buyer, Hudson's Bay Co. was interested in acquiring Saks Inc.

Hudson's Bay, which also runs some Canadian department stores, will pay $16 per share for Saks, a 5 percent premium over the company's Friday closing price of $15.31.

NFL Injuries

The fourth-year tight end will miss the entire season after suffering a dislocated hip during training camp practice.

“Dennis is out for the year,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said Sunday. “It’s the type of thing that he’s not going to be able to come back from this year. There’s enough damage in there to preclude that.”

Pitta underwent surgery Saturday night to put his hip back into place, and the team is awaiting medical results to determine any other damage. He reportedly also fractured his hip.

“Dennis is resting comfortably now at the hospital,” Harbaugh said. “He had the surgery last night, which is basically just to put the hip back in place because there was a little fragment that didn’t allow them to put the hip back into place without going in there.

“We’re in the process of getting the MRI now. We know it’s a dislocated hip. That’s really all we know at this point. We don’t know the extent of any other damage.”

Regardless of what the medical tests reveal, Harbaugh made it clear that the team does not expect Pitta to be able to play in 2013. Harbaugh said that the Ravens would not use the Injured Reserve – Designated To to Return distinction on Pitta, which is what the team used on Ray Lewis last season to allow him to come back for the playoffs. That means Pitta’s recovery will take longer than five months.

The injury comes at a horrible time for Pitta, who was scheduled to play this season as a restricted free agent. Pitta signed a second-round restricted free agent tender worth $2.023 million, and the Ravens had expressed interest in signing him to a long-term deal before the season. Pitta is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season, and likely won’t get as big a payday as he would have with an anticipated boost in production with Anquan Boldin gone.
