In just the 1st quarter of yesterday's pre-season contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson tore his ACL. On a play that seemed minor, the receiver jumped to make a catch and landed directly on his feet. After his land, he turned to tread up field and immediately collapsed on his knees. After the play, Nelson signaled to the sideline for an substitution. Though Jordy was able to march into the locker room without the emergency cart, NFL sources are reporting that Nelson indeed tore his ACL and will not be participating in the upcoming 2015 NFL regular season.
Packers fans certainly grieve losing their all-pro wideout. Nelson produced 13 TD's and 98 total receptions in the 2014, playing as Aaron Rodgers's go to guy in crucial situations. Going forward Green Bay will look for young speedster Randall Cobb and upcoming wide receiver Davante Adams to accommodate for this extreme loss. The Packers finished 1st in the NFC North last season with a 12-4 record. This season, they'll deal with an improved Detroit Lions defense, a revitalized Minnesota Vikings team and a NFC conference that has and will continue to be very competitive. Though Aaron Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy may act with composure, they definitely understand the significance of this calamity.
