Yesterday NFL news reported that the Chicago Bears plan to
trade away all-pro WR Brandon Marshall to the New York Jets. In return the
Bears will receive a 5th round pick for the upcoming NFL Draft that begins
April 30th. The trade will not take
until after free agency begins next Tuesday. Marshall's contract was fair
enough for the Bears to consider retaining him. 7.5 million Annual salary is
not unreasonable for a player of his caliber. The disappointing 2014 Bears
season rested on more shoulders than just that of Marshall but team coaching
personnel claim his locker room antics were a strong contribution to the lack
of morale therein. Also, Marshall's involvements with weekly night show Inside
The NFL agitated front office administrates who were complaining that his focus
should have been solely on football. This was just another scapegoat to place
the lack –luster ( 5-11) season blame on the all-pro wide receiver instead of
evaluating the team as a whole.
After a disappointing loss to the Indianapolis Colts in the
2014 AFC divisional round, the Denver Broncos fired head coach John Fox. Immediately,
not even a month later, the Chicago Bears hired Fox. They're hoping he can
re-establish the long-lived legacy of Chicago defense that digressed ever since
Brian Urlacher retired in 2012. Last season, the Bears defense allowed 49
opponent touchdowns and gave up almost 400 yards per game. It is safe to say
that though the problem was not particularly on Marshall's side of the ball,
the Bears are hoping that by freeing some cap space they'll be able to acquire
some defensive players in free agency.
The New York Jets are hoping to get Mariota or Winston in
the upcoming draft and end the quarterback carousel once and for all. They're
only downfall in 2014 was their inability to sustain offensive drives and rest
their defense. They issued 15
interceptions last year and the more excruciating shame was that they went 3
and out 62% of the times they reached 3rd down. With new arrival player Brandon Marshall and
head coach Todd Bowles, they are confident that they can turn it around in the
upcoming 2015 season. As the AFC East continues to become a competitive division
the Jets will have their work cut out for them. For more information regarding
