PANTHER PAYDAY

Sources have reported that after days of negotiation, 5th year NFL QB Cam Newton inked a new 5/year $103.8 million contract extension (60 million guaranteed) with the Carolina Panthers yesterday. Yeah, critics may argue that Cam Newton isn't of the best within the pocket and his horrid QB rating does justify this criticism. But his leadership and charisma has led the Carolina Panthers to two straight post-season appearances and division titles. Undoubtedly, the injury prone, interception throwing Newton will enter summer training camp with the million dollar smile that is quite expected. Speaking of expectation, Newton will be required to justify his pay-day with a potential NFC Championship or Super Bowl victory in one of the upcoming seasons. To much is given much is expected.

In a NFC South division where the Panthers have dominated the last two NFL seasons, the Panthers will likely take this momentum into 2015. They clinched a 2014-15 playoff berth with a sub 500 winning record, a clear conveyance the the NFC South was plainly the worst in the NFL last year. This year the stellar Panthers defense will face up against new Tampa Bay signal caller Jameis Winston, a revamped Saints offensive line, and a Falcons offense with new coaching personnel. As always, the task at hand will be tedious as opponents look to formulate new schematics to attack Luke Kuechly and the stellar Carolina defense. Cam Newton will need to minimize the three and out possessions this season to keep his defense well rested and comfortable down the stretch of games. As he has in the past, Cam will continue to run the read option and quick slant plays to keep the offensive attack  steady for the Panthers. Newton will likely have a matured relationship with sophomore wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin who made some miraculous catches last year including a touchdown in the playoffs in the divisional round game with the NFC champions the Seattle Seahawks. Well, for now Cam can bathe in being the talk of the town, his performance over his career has warranted this pay-day. Congratulations Cam Newton.
