The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Chicago Black Hawks in Game 1 of NHL Western Conference Finals by the score of 4-1 to take a 1-0 series lead. Undoubtedly, the story of the game was the tremendous defensive effort given by Anahiem Ducks goalie Frederik Andersen who was noted as one of the three stars of the night. The Ducks were out-shot 16-7 in the 1st period but somehow still managed produce a 1st period shutout entering intermission with a one goal lead. It didn't stop there though. Throughout the game, Chicago was denied on three power-play opportunities. Head coach Joel Quenneville couldn't have requested for a more passionate effort at the Honda Center last night. If they are able to keep up this type of offensive tenacity they may find themselves successful in Game 2. Anaheim sought to play physical in Game 1 producing 44 hits and a few penalties that had their stars Corey Perry and Ryan Kesler sitting in the box for hooking and slashing (2 minutes each). This Anaheim victory put a halt to a Black Hawks four game winning streak and set the tone for 2015 NHL Western Conference Finals. Only time will tell if this defensive onslaught holds up for the Anaheim Ducks or will Patrick Kane and the Chicago offense begin to see some of those shots hit the back of the net as the series progresses.
