IMPEACHEMENT IN ATLANTA
Atlanta shot a horrific 17.4% in last nights' Game 1 lost in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals by a score of 97-89. In the 3rd quarter, Hawks watched their forward DeMarre Carroll limp into the locker room on what looked like an season ending knee injury. This is bad news for the Hawks particularly on the defensive end where they're having the upmost difficulty against Cavs forward LeBron James. James capitalized on the offensive end in Game 1 torturing defender Paul Millsap who is clearly mismatched. James closed Game 1 with a clutch highflying slam dunk with just 39 seconds to go in the 4th quarter to push the Cavaliers lead to six points and ultimately the win. His 31 point outing was accompanied by J.R Smith who registered 28 points and a franchise NBA Playoffs record for most three-point field goals made with eight.
What's particularly intriguing about this Eastern Conference Finals series, is the luxury of having LeBron James resting at the defensive end. Unfortunately, the Hawks are up against an improved defense in Cleveland while they have not a single player on their roster with the offensive capability to apply pressure to an incredible defender in LeBron. Guard Jeff Teague was able to produce 27 points in Game 1, but it took him 24 field goal attempts. It is vital for the Hawks to have offensive efficiency if they are to stand a chance against the Cavaliers this series. They trailed by 18 in the 4th and were only able to cut the lead thanks to a bizarre effort by bench player Kent Bazemore. Going forward, the Hawks front court will need to be more of a force. They were out rebounded in Game 1 37-49 and were unable to contain the Cavaliers offense who've yet to even get an expected showing from all-star point guard Kyrie Irving. The #1 seeded Hawks have they're work cut out for themselves already with a 1-0 series deficit.
